Réunion sur la sécurité

RESIDENTS OF THE JEANNE-MANCE PARK VICINITY

 Dear neighbours,

 A week ago, on Monday September, 2006, a murder was committed in Jeanne-Mance Park in the early evening. This tragic event emphasizes the seriousness of the recurrent security issue in our neighbourhood.

 The Jeanne-Mance Park Association has brought the security problems in the park and its immediate vicinity to the attention of our municipal councillors and police, on several occasions. The illegal activities in the Park are witnessed by a large number of citizens, on a daily basis. Young and not so young people are harassed by dealers offering drugs for sale. This situation has reached a critical point and, in spite of interventions by the Association and complaints from residents, the authorities have not implemented adequate measures to ensure an acceptable level of security in the neighbourhood.

In view of this disturbing situation, the Association has requested a public meeting with the Mairesse of Plateau Mont-Royal and the Chief of Police at station 38 to address the issue and come up with concrete solutions.

 This meeting will bring together citizens, community groups, and borough and police representatives. It will be held:

 When?   Thursday October 19, 2006, at 6:30 pm

Where?  Sun Youth, at 4251, rue Saint-Urbain

 You may have already received the notice from Station 38 about the meeting.

The mobilization of citizens concerning such an important issue is essential in order to guarantee the quality of life in our neighbourhood in the future. We urge you to pass on the information about this meeting and to show up in numbers.

RÉSIDENTS DU QUARTIER DU PARC JEANNE-MANCE

 Chers voisins, chères voisines,

 Il y a une semaine, lundi le 25 septembre 2006, un meurtre a été commis dans le parc Jeanne-Mance en tout début de soirée.  Cet évènement tragique remet à l’avant-scène un très sérieux et récurrent problème dans le voisinage, la sécurité.

 La question de la sécurité dans le parc et dans le quartier immédiat a été maintes fois soulevée par les membres de l’Association du parc Jeanne-Mance tant auprès de nos élus municipaux que de la police. Très nombreux sont les citoyens qui sont quotidiennement témoins d’activités illégales et dangereuses dans le parc Jeanne-Mance. Jeunes et moins jeunes sont régulièrement sollicités pour un commerce de drogue. L’Association estime que la situation a atteint un point critique et que, malgré ses représentations et les plaintes des résidents, les autorités n’ont pas pris les mesures adéquates pour assurer un niveau de sécurité acceptable dans le quartier.

 Devant cette situation très inquiétante, l’Association a donc approché la Mairesse et les responsables de la police et leur a demandé d’organiser une réunion publique sur cette question.

 Cette réunion réunira groupes communautaires, citoyens et responsables de l’arrondissement et responsables de la police. Elle aura lieu :

 Vous avez d’ailleurs probablement déjà reçu une lettre du Poste de police 38 annonçant cette réunion.

 La mobilisation des citoyens autour d’une question aussi importante est essentielle pour assurer la qualité de vie future du quartier. Nous vous invitons donc à faire circuler l’information concernant cette réunion et à y venir en grand nombre.
